1-is designed to focus on the main PE concepts that pupils need to learn and remember. It is also true to the national curriculum for both Key Stages 1 and 2 and the EYFS framework.
2-ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum is met.
3-has a high focus on physical health, mental health and PSHE skills, including building resilience and developing the importance of working as a team.
4-is designed to enhance long term memory through linked, revisited concepts.
5- is progressive in knowledge and skills from Reception- Year 6 (see progression document below)
6- is underpinned by our British values, equalities, school ‘BRAVE’ ethos and the need to build cultural capital for all our pupils.
Key principles underpinning our PE curriculum:

3-Having a resource rich environment
4-Children having an enthusiastic attitude towards physical education, developing confidence and interest in sports, and leading healthy, active lives in and out of school and in later life.
Physical education is taught on a weekly basis throughout the school. Each class in KS1 and KS2 provide 2 hours of PE a week. Our EYFS children access one PE lesson a week as well as having daily access to our all-weather outdoor areas.
Many of our lessons, especially those indoor, have visual clips to enhance learning further. Key PE vocabulary for each unit of work is identified (see vocabulary documents below) and is referred to regularly within lessons. Where units do not have a progression in vocabulary document, they have a knowledge organiser that includes key vocabulary taught.
